Finding the Right Color

March 8, 2017

It can be difficult to find the right colors in working with your marketing materials as there is such a difference between the printing color spectrum (CMYK) and what you see on your computer screen for your website, proofing and social media (RGB).

CMYK stands for Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black which make up the process colors in standard offset presses. These colors are used to create all the other colors through a series of tiny dots that when printed, form the images and colors you desire.

RGB stands for Red, Green and Blue which is the color spectrum used in computers. You can see the difference in the red and green immediately as the colors have different tones and balances due to the fact that they are created using different colors.

The Color Spectrum chart shows the difference between the total color spectrum, what you can see as visible Light, what colors can be created using RGB and what colors can be created using CMYK. It's important to understand these color variations in your design process as well as any PDF proofing that you might do via computer.

We'd be more than happy to work with you to make sure that you have the right colors and make the impression you are intending to make. We hope this helps and don't hesitate to call or email!
